Let’s be honest for a moment.
Self-care has become a buzzword. A shopping list. A thing you’re supposed to do but somehow never have time for. Another item on the to-do list that makes you feel guilty for not getting to it.
At Wild Queens Rising, we believe self-care shouldn’t feel like a chore. It shouldn’t require candles, a forty-step skincare routine, or a weekend away (though we’re partial to the last one). True self-care is simpler and harder all at once: it’s a practice of listening to yourself and responding with kindness, over and over again.
Here’s how to build a ritual that actually sticks, not because you force it, but because it fits.

1. Start smaller than you think you need to.
The biggest trap is ambition. You decide you’re going to meditate for thirty minutes every morning, journal three pages, and do a full yoga flow. Then day two hits, you’re exhausted, and you feel like you’ve already failed.
Instead, start with five minutes. Or two. Or one. A ritual that takes sixty seconds and actually happens is infinitely more powerful than a grand plan that gathers dust. Ask yourself: What is the smallest version of care I can offer myself today?
2. Anchor it to something you already do.
The easiest way to build a new habit is to attach it to an existing one. Already make coffee in the morning? That’s your anchor. While it brews, take three deep breaths. Already brush your teeth at night? That’s your cue to name one thing you’re grateful for.
No extra time required. Just a small moment of intention.

3. Let it be flexible, not fragile.
Some days, self-care looks like a long walk. Other days, it looks like ordering takeout and going to bed at eight. Both count. The ritual itself doesn’t need to look the same every day. What matters is the thread of returning to yourself, checking in, asking what you need, and honoring the answer without judgment.
4. Release the guilt.
You will skip days. You will forget. You will choose productivity over presence sometimes. That’s not failure. That’s being human.
Self-care is not a test you can pass or fail. It’s a relationship you keep showing up to, imperfectly, honestly, and with grace.
At Wild Queens Rising, we build space for exactly this kind of gentle, sustainable practice. In Cassis, you’ll have time to explore what self-care actually feels like for you, not what Instagram told you it should be.
Our April 2027 retreat has one spot left. If you’re ready to trade guilt for genuine care, we’d love to welcome you.
Because you don’t need to earn rest. You just need to receive it.
