There’s a quiet moment that happens in almost every session.
It’s not when the camera first comes out, or when the lighting is adjusted just right. It’s not even when the client steps into the space, sometimes nervous, sometimes excited, often carrying a mix of both.
It happens somewhere in between.
A shift.
A softening.
A remembering.
And from behind the lens, it’s one of the most powerful things to witness.
As a boudoir photographer and retreat host, I’ve come to realize that this work is about so much more than capturing beautiful images. It’s about holding space. It’s about reflection, both literal and emotional. It’s about creating an environment where someone feels safe enough to be seen… and brave enough to truly see themselves.
When people think of photography, they often think of technical skill, lighting, angles, composition. And yes, those things matter. But what matters more is the energy behind the camera.
Every session begins long before the first photo is taken. It begins with trust.
My role isn’t just to direct poses or find the best light. It’s to create a space where vulnerability is welcomed, not rushed. Where there is no pressure to perform, no expectation to be anything other than exactly who you are in that moment.
Because empowerment doesn’t come from being told you’re beautiful.
It comes from feeling it.

One of the most beautiful parts of this work is watching the transformation unfold.
At the beginning of a session, there’s often hesitation. A guardedness. Shoulders slightly tense, laughter that hides a hint of uncertainty. Questions like, “What do I do with my hands?” or “Am I doing this right?”
And then, slowly, something changes.
The breath deepens.
The body relaxes.
The eyes soften.
There’s a moment when the need for perfection dissolves, and what’s left is something real. Something raw. Something deeply, undeniably them.
From behind the lens, I’m not creating that transformation. I’m simply witnessing it… and reflecting it back.
We live in a world that often teaches us that empowerment looks a certain way, confident, bold, unapologetic. And while it can look like that, it can also look like something much quieter.
Empowerment can be soft.
It can be emotional.
It can be found in stillness, in surrender, in simply allowing yourself to exist without judgment.
Some clients step into their session ready to take up space. Others arrive feeling disconnected from themselves, unsure of what they’ll find.
Both are equally powerful.
Because empowerment isn’t about becoming someone new.
It’s about coming home to who you’ve always been.

This is also why retreats hold such a special place in my heart.
A photoshoot can open the door, but a retreat allows you to walk through it.
In a retreat setting, there’s time. Time to slow down. Time to connect. Time to peel back the layers that we so often keep protected in our day-to-day lives.
Through movement, conversation, stillness, and shared experiences, something begins to unfold naturally. Walls soften. Connections deepen, not just with others, but with yourself.
And when it comes time to step in front of the camera, it feels different.
It’s not about posing anymore.
It’s about expressing.
People often ask what I see when I look through the camera.
The answer is simple, but it’s also everything:
I see strength in softness.
I see beauty in imperfection.
I see stories written in every line, every curve, every expression.
I see someone who is far more powerful than they realize.
And my job, my honor, is to capture that in a way that allows you to see it too.

At its core, boudoir photography isn’t about changing how you look.
It’s about changing how you see yourself.
The images we create together are not a reinvention of who you are. They are a reflection of what has always been there, sometimes hidden, sometimes forgotten, but never gone.
So if you’ve ever felt nervous about stepping in front of the camera, know this:
You don’t have to arrive confident.
You don’t have to know what you’re doing.
You don’t have to be anything other than yourself.
That is more than enough.
And from behind the lens, I’ll be there to remind you of that, every step of the way.
